Sin in the City
Las Vegas was considering other attractions when other gambling centers begun sprouting up everywhere in North America. The city ventured into theme parks thinking that if its vices are not admissible then it will be an agent in family excursions. It mostly failed in this wholesome attempt.
So now Vegas is forging a new identity not far from its vices; what it had in mind was a wonderful place to indulge in sinful fun. Here people do what they cannot do at home obtrusively and copiously.
And having learned from past experience, most hotels and other building remain free from themes. As one comedian said, "People come to Vegas to release". Guests should be left to their imagination when looking for a place to stay and have fun.
According to studies, feeding vices are just so profitable. MGM Grand even stripped its amusement parks to make room for new nightclubs. They have naked gymnastic and sex aerobics. The tongs that dancers wear are highly innovative in that they don't have strings.
It is these vices that have given Vegas a 35.5 million revenue in 2003 and the title fastest growing major city in the United States. A huge piece of earnings is due to its clients aging 30 and under. These guys are schooled and with expendable incomes to spend in Vegas. Most of these youngsters are from Los Angeles and stay most of their time in clubs.
A new Vegas is awing investors not just by huge revenues but by bigger and classy establishments from suite rooms only hotels to 18 hole golf courses on the strip. Big companies are merging to give birth to far shimmering casino hotels
Kirk Kerkorian is putting MGM Mirage and Mandalay Resort Group under one umbrella to form one of the world's largest gaming companies. Sheldon Adelson is thinking of a new grand hotel while Steve Wynn is up to something enormous and extravagant. Watch out; high-rise condos are next in line.
Now Vegas is not all casinos and gambling. It has paved way for more hotels, bars, restaurants and malls. They realized that of a tourist's 4 days stay only 4 hours is spent on the game table or in front of the slot machine. In 2003, the shops in this oasis have given it a record of $32.8 billion in revenue.
The richness does not seem to end there; everything in Vegas spells out class. For dining, Vegas has hired more master sommeliers than in the entire states combined. Its shop carries famous names such as Louis Vuitton, and Armani. And don't forget Gucci and Dior.
Take a trip to Vegas and discover the best (and worst) of everything!
